SWC

We compiled a short list of bands performing at this year’s Airwaves festival that we think you should check out, and the friendly guys of the Reykjavik Grapevine published it for all of you to peruse. Has Sudden Weather Change in it (pictured above).

Iceland Airwaves live. Sort of.

Live

If you are, like us, stranded somewhere in the world that is not Iceland and still want to participate at this year’s Airwaves festival, have a look at this: Live Project: Airwaves.

“Live Project: Airwaves is a real time video and photo blog from the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival 2010 powered by you. The website allows visitors to experience live shows and festival atmosphere through your eyes and via your phone in real time on the web. The project will be live on Thursday, October 14 and will broadcast through Sunday.”

As stated above, the website went live today, so there’s not much to see at the moment. But we hope for some authentic films and pictures from tonight’s shows come tomorrow. And if you are at the Airwaves, do us a favour and upload a clip or two to ease our suffering.

PS: the Grapevine did a short interview with creator Hörður Kristbjörnsson.

Free Iceland Airwaves compilation

one comment

GV

Our friends over at the Reykjavik Grapevine, our favourite Icelandic (English-language) newspaper are offering a free (!) 38 (!)-song compilation (direct downoad link 340MB) with artists appearing at this year’s Iceland Airwaves. So, even if we cannot attend, we can at least listen.

Did I mention that the compilation is free?

Farewell, Iceland Airwaves

leave a comment

As Kai has already outlined in his post over at Stylespion, the Iceland Airwaves Festival this year will have to do without the Sonic Iceland-boys. We have reasons for this aplenty, but mostly it’s the lack of funding, again. And not because we are lazy, but our stay in June has eaten away our budget and all those generous donations, and as we do not have a partner supporting us with hard cash or assignements from other publications, we couldn’t make it.

But I’ll stop whining now, and hope that those attending and playing the festival have a great time.

And if you are the editor of the Rolling Stone magazine or The Quietus and your correspondent in Iceland is sick, please call us. We are good.

In the meantime, I’ll watch this here and keep quietly on crying into my Brennivín:

Icelandic updates

Even though we are having some kind of work-related hiatus, our favourite island and it’s quirky inhabitants are restless as usual. So, in no particular order, here are a couple of happenings from the land of ice:

First of all, Reykjavik’s biggest and best music festival, the Iceland Airwaves, have finally launched their new website. Vist and rejoice!

Speaking of new websites, the lovely ladies (and lads) that are Amiina also have introduced a new homepage (to accompany the release of their upcoming album “Puzzle”), where you can download the new song “Over and Again” for free. Free, that is.

Plus, Amiina are among the bands that will play the Icelandic Music Weekend , part of my hometown Dublin’s biggest theatre- and arts festival, the Absolut Fringe Festival. Also playing are Olöf Arnalds and our friends FM Belfast, and the Sonic Iceland-boyz are actually planning to cover this event with words and pictures. Stay tuned!

And last but by no means least, the good guys from SIRTV have released the latest installment of the Sleepless in Reykjavik-webTV-series, which I have added for your convenience below.

The Sleepless In Reykjavik WebTv Series – Episode 3 from Gussi – Sleepless In Reykjavik on Vimeo.

Enjoy the weekend, and stay save. Bless!
