Not dead yet

And for a split second we ourselves thought this project would be dead. We were buried under loads of every-day tasks, mundane exchangement of skills for money, and in the meantime our declared goal of creating a website and a book all by ourselves seemed too far away and the workload overwhelming. I couldn’t get a grip on how to start my story-telling, Kai was struggling to come up with a groundbreaking idea for the website, and the outlook of transcribing interview after interview did not seem very appealing to anyone participating.

But then, as it strangely happened very often for this project of ours, fortune stepped in and we found rekindled love for all things Sonic Iceland. Leica had kindly provided Kai with a camera for our trip, and has offered to exhibit some of Kai’s pictures at Germany’s biggest photography fair, Photokina in Cologne. Also did they ask Kai to give a lecture about our project, both on the Leica booth and on Saturday’s Photocamp. Kai’s picture’s are already on display, and there will be lectures on both Friday and Sunday, in case you should be in Cologne and want to meet Kai personally to learn more about us.

I for my part will meet our favourite Icelandic electro-poppers, FM Belfast at the Icelandic Music Weekend (part of the Absolut Fringe Festival) in my hometown Dublin, to chat with Arni again about the release of the music documentary Backyard, which was finally screened to a happy bunch of cinema-goers in Reykjavik last week and is currently awaiting release. Here’s the new, sub-titled trailer for your entertainment:

And last but not least, we are almost ready to launch the website. We had hoped to have it ready for the Photokina, which we unfortunately did not manage, but it will be live soon. We’ll however publish some snippet texts over the next days and are eager for your feedback.

  3. The guys are still looking for a Europe-wide distribution to have it screened in a couple of arthouse cinemas. We’ll update you once we know more!
