How do you like Iceland?

.

I have given some thought to what I’m going to write in my last post while still in Iceland. I could have written about how much the expectations that I had differ from the actual course our stay here took. About partying like St. Paddy’s Day and Cologne carnival combined, without green face-paint or silly dresses. About the incredibly nice people that live here, and how hard it can be sometimes to get in contact with them – and how easy it is to meet them after the initial contact. About a landscape that dwarves everything and seems not to be made for humans to live in it. About rocking out in a cafe/bar filled with people, with a band playing in the smallest corner of the room, their singer hanging from the chandelier and shouting obscenities, while the people behind the bar spray the room with water from the soda dispensers and everyone is going berserk. About talking to a world-renowned singer/songwriter in a disused tank for fish-oil, next to a run-down factory in a fjord from where you still see snow on the tops of the mountains. About so many more things.

.

Instead of this I’m going to answer the question that many Icelanders ask people visiting this island, without really expecting a response.

How do you like Iceland?

Very much.

PS: Kai is staying for another week. So expect more from Sonic Iceland, in Iceland. And of course we just have started…

  1. After winning the game against Ghana and celebrating the whole thing, I’m sitting on my balcony, reading your blog post and looking at your pictures, I get the feeling, there can be millions of worse situations!
Have a fun night, enjoy your last stay together and have a save trip home, Marcel! It was a pleasure to read every single report. Can’t believe it’s almost over.
    Kai, take care!
