I never went to Ísafjörður
Sonic Iceland are missing another festival in Iceland. This time it’s the Aldrei fór ég suður (or “I never went south”)-festival in the Westfjords region of Iceland. The festival was initiated by our hero Mugison, and has become the 2nd biggest event in the Icelandic calendar right after the Iceland Airwaves.
Kai went last year, so at least he got a taste of multiple Icelandic bands of all types and sounds playing in an old factory building, while a snowstorm was howling outside. It seems we will not get the chance this year. But thankfully, we have the internet. And the friendly people of Inspired by Iceland, who are kindly running a livestream to cover the whole festival.
“This year, Aldrei fór ég suður will be sent out via a live stream by Inspired by Iceland. Last year, Inspired by Iceland successfully streamed the concert Iceland Inspires, featuring Icelandic and international acts, live from Reykjavík to viewers around the world. That concert is still available online, on the www.inspiredbyiceland.com website.
Those who want to invite their friends to watch the concert can send a free e-card with stunning photographs from Iceland, on http://www.inspiredbyiceland.com/stories/e-cards. A standard text is made available by default, but senders can also change the text at will.”
Aldrei fór ég suður is taking place, online and offline, on Friday 22.04.11 and Saturday 23.04.11 (livestream starts at 6PM local time every day). Enjoy Aldrei, wherever you are!
