Because there are only few bacteria in the soil of the Icelandic highlands, garbage that has been thrown away rottens very, very slowly and thus is preserved for many years.

If one accidently steps on plants growing in the highlands, they won't recover in many years.

During the great Jökulhlaup (glacier burst) of Mýrdalsjökull in the 18th century more than twice the amount of water flooded the southern part of the island per minute than the Amazonas carries along in the same time.

Greetings from an Iceland addict!

So what happens if they are two Magnus', both with a daughter with the same name? I know, with a density of 2.8 per m², this is highly unlikely, however... what if?

Rather fascinating, I have to say

Iceland is the only country that lies both in Europe and America. Considering plate tectonics, Iceland is the only place where the Eurasian and the American Plate meet above sea level. Actually, one can see the cleft between both plates running through the country from north to south: it's a ditch of a couple of meters of depth and width.

There is no McDonald's in Iceland.

Iceland is a huge geothermal area. Electricity gained from geothermics is that cheap that power-consuming industries such as aluminium smelting settel there. But the Icelanders make use of geothermics, too: Nearly every village - even those consisting of a fistful of houses - has at least one swimming bath and there is a traditional way of baking bread by burying the dough only a few centimeters beneath the ground.
